Te Moana nui a Kiwa translates to 'The Great Ocean of Kiwa.'

I have titled this work Moana nui a Kiwa to centre the ocean as the connecting thread between Māori and Pacific peoples. The wāhine Māori mau moko stands before a blue backdrop representing the moana. The circular shapes draw from traditional patterns and reference the waka hourua that voyaged and migrated across the Pacific. The flowers around her and in her ear acknowledge adornment practices from other islands. 

This work also honours my many loved friends who whakapapa Māori and to the Pacific islands. Together, it is a reminder that Pacific identities are inherently interconnected through our waters.
